Ritterk is correct, WW1 period Forgein service helmets had a complicated but functional puggiree, and some times a leather edge to the brim.

All the WW1 dated examples I have seen, have the more complicated puggiree, including the example I own.

The foil also seems to be seen in later examples.

On another forum the leather trim has been attributed to officers helmets.
I did have an example like this, it was South African a Camel police item.
