Signals and Alfred Bines

Postby Steve_Butler » Fri Oct 12, 2007 11:38 am

I will be placing a troopers page especially for 43716 Alfred Bines when I get time. This is one of 38 photographs given to me by his son Graham this week.
Again what a delight to meet some of the families of these Mounted Men - The Bines family are certainly an assert to our country. Before I go into Alfreds's story I thought I would post at least one photograph up to improve our story on the "Signals" page. Actually this is the second photo from Graham as the elongated photo shown of the Signallers and Engineers is shown at present on our "Updates" page.
But like many many photos that have recently come to hand by all those people wrting in - this is a bit of a favourite - the casualness of the shot and the relationship with home is apparent when reading the note on the back.

Placed new page up for Alfred Bines on the "Troopers Stories Pages" and his page can be found at:
http://www.nzmr.org/tr_bines.htm
Also the photograph album may be accessed from this page or from:
http://www.nzmr.org/gallery.htm
and a nice little story is added regarding a letter the family still keeps.

which reads:
Base Signal Depot
To the Boys of the A.I.F. and N.Z.E. Sigs.

May I have the great pleasure in sending you all this small token of thanks, wishing you all, also the very best of wishes and a very prosperous New Year. Many thanks indeed for the kindness in which you have indeed shown yourselves toward me, and I can assure you that your most beautiful keepsake presented to me yesterday, is and will continue to be treasured by me, and will remain with me throughout life bearing great happy thoughts of the Boys of Australia and New Zealand.
I remain yours most sincere,
H. Clark, Sergeant Royal Engineers
