Wellington Mounted Rifles Officer, Major William James Hardham earned a Victoria Cross while serving as a Farrier-Sergeant - 28th January 1901 during The Boer War. William landed at Gallipoli in WW1 as a Captain in the WMR in 1915, seriously wounded during the campaign, he recovered to serve in both Sinai and Palestine, returning home a survivor of the Great War.
Officer Hardham is listed below as Officer-in-Charge of the Wellington Mounted Rifles on two different occasions during 1918.
